Recraft review: Evaluate an editable vector, not just a preview image

The short version

A useful starting point

Consider Recraft when vector editability and handover are part of the deliverable.

A good fit if…

Designers creating asset families that need resizing and later edits.

Look elsewhere if…

You will judge the result only from the generation preview.

A visual asset may need to be resized, recolored and handed to another designer after it is generated. Recraft is a candidate when those downstream edits matter. Evaluate the structure and usability of the exported asset, because a good-looking preview does not tell you whether the file is convenient to maintain.

What the vector workflow documents

Recraft describes vector generation, editing of shapes, curves and colors, and SVG export. This makes the exported file part of the evaluation. Check the current model and account requirements for your intended output, and review usage terms before treating a trial result as a commercial production asset.

Begin with a small asset family

For a hypothetical onboarding guide, define three related icons with a shared visual weight and color palette. Describe the distinction each icon must communicate. Judge the set together rather than accepting three attractive images that do not look related or that become difficult to distinguish at a small size.

Inspect the exported vectors in the design application or delivery environment you will actually use. Try changing one color and resizing the asset. Review whether the shapes and grouping support the edits you expect a colleague to make. The presence of an SVG extension alone does not demonstrate that the file is simple or well organized.

Check function as well as appearance

A decorative illustration and an interface icon have different acceptance criteria. An icon should remain recognizable in the context where it appears and should not rely on a subtle detail that disappears when reduced. Keep text labels where the meaning would otherwise be ambiguous. Generated artwork does not replace a check of how the asset communicates inside the finished design.

Evaluate the handover

Ask another designer to make a small requested change using the exported file and your brief. Record any rebuilding or cleanup they need. Keep the selected version and the terms applicable to its use with the project record. Choose Recraft when editable output helps the real production workflow, rather than when the initial preview is the only part that has been examined.

Review scope

This review uses the linked official product documentation and editorial analysis. We have not run a hands-on product test or measured accuracy. Suggested exercises describe how to evaluate your own workflow. Plan access and data settings should be confirmed for the account you intend to use. Sources checked on 2026-10-24.

Strengths

  • Vector editing and SVG export support an editable-asset workflow.

Limitations

  • An exported vector can still require structural cleanup or redesign.

Before you decide

  • Test a small related asset family.
  • Open and edit the export in the destination application.
  • Check current usage terms for the intended project.
